Dylan Jones’ early goal was enough to clinch the North Wilts Youth League U13 Cup Final for FC Chippenham against Highworth Town Juniors on Sunday.
In what was a really competitive and tight final, Jones gave Chippenham the lead on seven minutes when he exchanged passes with Sam McFarlane before firing into the top corner from close range.
Stuart Smith then forced a great save out of Highworth keeper Ben Creighton before the latter had to tip over from Liam Geraghty.
Highworth had the ball in the back of the net soon after but Brandon Johnson’s effort was ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper.
Sam Giddings almost levelled for Highworth but his scooped shot went just over the Chippenham bar.
Micky McCann fired just wide for Highworth before Jones missed two chances to extend Chippenham’s advantage.
With just seconds left on the clock, Chippenham keeper Freddie Calley pulled off a match-winning save to deny Kieren Legg’s fine shot.
Chippenham then cleared Giddings’ header off the line as they held on for victory.
