FA Charter Standard – Introduction

fa charter standard

The FA Charter Standard Programme is The FA’s accreditation scheme for grass-roots clubs and leagues. Its goal is to raise standards in grass-roots football, support the development of clubs and leagues, recognising and rewarding them for their commitment and achievements.

With this in mind, The FA Charter Standard accreditation is awarded to clubs and leagues rigorously adjudged to be well-run and sustainable – and which prioritise child protection, quality coaching and implementation of the Respect programme.

The NWYFL are proud to have regained this accreditation at the end of last season.

One key criteria to maintaining our Charter Standard is the aspiration that all Clubs in our League have also achieved and maintained FA Charter Standard.

There are three levels of FA Charter Standard Awards for clubs:

  • FA Charter Standard Club for youth and adult clubs: the entry-level accreditation

  • FA Charter Standard Development Club: for clubs clearly enhancing the quality and scope of their football offering

  • FA Charter Standard Community Club: acknowledging the most advanced level of club development and football provision.

For clubs who have FA Charter Standard accreditation, the challenge is to progress to the next level or to maintain that level. For clubs without FA Charter Standard status, the scheme provides aspirational points on its development journey.

For Clubs that already have FA Charter Standard accreditation, we are now in the middle of the CS Annual Health Check, hopefully you are actively progressing this Health Check via WGS.

For the Clubs that have yet to achieve FA Charter Standard accreditation and have not engaged with their County FA to start the process, please take a look at the following pages for information and guidance on starting this process.

The league management committee are keen to assist our member Clubs obtain and maintain the FA Charter Standard accreditation, please let us know if there is something you believe we can do to help your Club.
