Julia’s House

NWYFL is pleased to announce that in 2018, the league is supporting local charity, Julia’s House.

Julia’s House is a children’s hospice providing practical and emotional support for families caring for a child with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, providing frequent and regular support in their own homes, in the community or at their hospices.

Three years ago, Julia’s House launched a small home-based respite care service for families of life-limited children in South Wiltshire.  Having seen the need for a dedicated children’s hospice in Wiltshire; somewhere children could come and play in an environment tailored specifically for them, Julia’s House made the decision to open a Wiltshire based hospice.  In May 2017, they opened Julia’s House Devizes, the first children’s hospice in Wiltshire.  The hospice which is situated in the heart of the country supports families from across the whole of Wiltshire.

Julia’s House is both a local charity and is focussed on children, and is therefore a natural fit to become the NWYFL’s supported charity for 2018.  A number of events will be held during the calendar year, both to raise funds for the charity, and of equal importance, to raise awareness.

Ged Montgomery, from Julia’s House, commented:

“Thank you to NWYFL for choosing Julia’s House. This support will be a lifeline for families facing a desperate reality – that their child may not live into adulthood. Our nurses and carers help families make the most of the time they have together, providing practical and emotional support through frequent, short breaks for mums and dads and social opportunities for the whole family. Julia’s House can’t change the outcome for these families, but we can make a real difference to the quality of their lives.”

“The League has supported local and children’s charities over the last few years, we are therefore very proud to announce our support for Julia’s House for this year. We look forward to working with Ged and the team over the coming year to raise money and awareness during our various events.”
